Which information is shown in the Gantt Chart?
The Gantt (or Bar) Chart provides a quick overview of your project's schedule. To do so it is using the Start and Due Date of each Deliverable as well as its current status and possibly reported issues.
On the left you can see the Structure of your Project which unfolds for more details when you click on it. Furthermore a percentage value presenting the current status of the deliverables is displayed. It is calculated as the average of the status of the assigned activities, where "Pending" is 0%, "in Progress" is 50% and "done" is 100%. If the value is presented in red that means that the deliverable is behind schedule. If the deliverable has open issues an exclamation mark is presented additionally. An orange value with exclamation mark stands for a deliverable which is on time but has open issues.
In the chart itself today is flagged with a green vertical line. The blue bars represent a group of deliverables which were determined by your project structure. The start date of the group depends on the earliest start date while the due date depends on the latest due date of all deliverables represented. Green bars represent deliverables which are on time. Furthermore the dark-green progress-bar shows the current status of the deliverable. Orange bars represent deliverables which are on time but have open issues. Issues, that means obstructions or claims, are further illustrated by a small icon next to the bar. If the bars are red, that means that the deliverables are behind schedule which means that they were either started after the start date or are not finished before due date. Red deliverables might also have open issues which will be shown right next to the bar.
How to navigate in the Bar Chart?
The Bar Chart offers multiple ways of navigation which will be explained below.
You can use the header bar which shows the date range of the currently displayed extract of the Bar Chart to navigate directly to specific years, months and weeks. To do so click on the lower row of the bar. The chart will show you the selected month or week afterwards which means it will zoom into the data. To zoom back out you can either click on the higher row of the bar or use the arrow button on the left side of the header. Furthermore you can use the classic plus-minus-buttons at the bottom right of the chart to zoom.
In addition to the scroll wheel of your mouse and the scroll bars at the right and the bottom of the chart you can also use the arrow keys on your keyboard or the arrow-buttons in the chart to slide through the data.
You can also use the calendar button in the top-left area of the page to directly jump to today. If you want to jump to the schedule of a specific Deliverable you can do so if you hover over the specific element in the list. After a very short delay, an arrow is shown and if you click it the chart will jump to the start and end date of the
How to change dates in the Bar Chart?
If you are an administrator or a manager of your project you can easily change the start and end date of a Deliverable using the Bar Chart. There are two ways of doing it.
- You can drag and drop the bars of specific Deliverables to change the start and end date at once. If you just want to change the start or the end date, do so by expanding the back or the front of the bar. While you move the bars in the chart possibly saved times (e.g. from importing your data from MS Project) are saved. The displayed tooltip also shows you the new start and end date even while you are still moving the bars.
2. Hover over the Deliverable that you want to edit in the list on the left hand side. After a short delay a details-button is shown. If you click it an overlay pops up. In here you will not only see the process in more detail, but also every documented note. And you may change the start and end date by clicking on it and changing the dates in the upcoming dialogue.
